Despite chilly water temperatures, 10 enthusiastic teams set out on Day 1 of the 1st Annual Islamorada Shark Fly tournament based out of La Siesta Marina. A unique 2 day tournament that is a qualifying event for the 2011 FKO/IGFA Inshore Championship, Day 1 saw lots of different plans and strategies set in motion. Fishing was slow and humbling with Capt. Drew Moret and angler Milt Wienburg taking Day 1 honors with only one Lemon Shark caught and released. There were very few reports of hook ups and that sent everyone back to the drawing board for day 2.

With warmer water temperatures and a stiffer breeze, teams set out on Day 2 looking to redeem themselves from the previous day. Fishing was much better with a total of 8 sharks caught and released and many more hook ups reported. When the dust settled, Capt. Mark Johnson and angler Mike Rempe of Windsor, CO won the tournament with a total of 3 Blacktip/Spinner sharks for a total of 450 points. Capt. Rob Fordyce and angler CJ Nelson finished 2nd with 1 Bull Shark, and Capt. Rusty Albury with angler John Kazanjian of Toronto finished third place with two Lemon Sharks. Capt. Mike Kozma and Ross Demarco took home best other fish with an 18lb. Jack Cravelle. Mike Rempe will recieve an invitation to the 2011 Inshore Championship and the Islamorada Shark fly will return again in March of 2011.

ALL PROCEEDS go to the "We Fish For Kids Foundation".
