Exaggerated reports of massive bonefish kills from our recent record cold winter were put to rest during the 14th Annual Spring All Tackle Bonefish Tournament. Seven weight fish (bones over 8 pounds) were officially weighed and released during 3 days of intense bonefishing. Thirteen releases were also carded during windy and cloudy conditions.

Captain Chris Jones guided Gary Parsons (both seen at left) to 1801 points, constructed with three weight fish of 9 pounds 12 ounces, 10 pounds 8 ounces and 10 pounds 9 ounces, plus one release for the victory. All of these fish crushed live shrimp and were taken on ten pound Invisibraid Spider Wire in the backcountry of Islamorada.

Veteran tournament anglers and guides conspired behind the scenes to recognize the angling and charitable contributions of living fishing legend Jim Bokor, by renaming the event the Jim Bokor Spring All Tackle. Visibly moved by the surprise ceremony directed by his long time friend and ace angler Robert Collins, Bokor proceeded to celebrate the honor by finishing a close second with Captain Richard Black. Jim scored 1578 points, with a giant 13 pound 5 ounce fat silver football and two releases. The monster also took the Largest Fish Award, and gave proof to the very words Collins spoke during the kickoff at tournament headquarters The Islamorada Fishing Club, that Bokor has landed more bonefish over 10 pounds than any angler in the history of our sport. Jim Bokor and Captain Richard Black display a 13 pound 5 ounce bonefish.

Third place went to Captain Mark Gilman and Tony Horsley with two weights of 9 pounds 4 ounces and 11 pounds 4 ounces. Frank Delucas won most releases with Captain Mark Krowka with 6 silver bullets. Delucas also took home high point first time angler by adding a 9 pound 9 ounce weight fish. Richard Oliver took a 33 inch to the fork permit with captain Tad Burke to win the largest permit award.
