ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys —Sullivan’s Island, SC fly angler Baker Bishop prevailed for the second year in a row fishing with Captain Brian Helms in the Outback Golden Fly  Tarpon Tournament , which took place May 17 – 19 at Outback Steakhouse in Islamorada, Florida Keys.

Bishop and his guide, Captain Brian Helms of Homestead, FL, were in the lead on day one, Robertson & Rodriguez took the lead on day two, catching two weight fish and two releases. Bishop added one more weight fish and two releases on the last day to move into the winners circle.  From left to right, Brian Helms, Baker Bishop and artist KC Scott.

The tournament’s first runner-up was Julian Robertson of New Zealand, guided by Captain Joe Rodriguez of Homestead, FL. Julian also caught and released a 142 pound tarpon to win the largest tarpon award.

Second runner-up was past champion David Dalu of Charleston, SC, guided by Captain Scott Collins of Marathon, FL. Dalu & Collins  also caught the best other fish, a mutton snapper.

The Senior Grand Champion was Bill Rustin of Raleigh, NC, fishing with Capt. Bob Branham of Plantation, FL.  

Total tarpon releases were 46 and total weight fish were 20. A weight fish must be a minimum of 70 pounds, and a release fish must be 48 inches. The Outback Golden Fly Tarpon Tournament provides scholarships to students from the FL Keys. The dates for next year are May 23 -25, 2011.
